BHC Youth Sports League
Springs into Kickball

In spring 2010 the Brotherhood Community sprung into a new sports league. While most everyone has played it throughout the history of their school days, played on the play ground of their institution of higher learning there are very few kickball leagues in Southern California and Brotherhood Crusade started their own in spring 2010.

The league fielded four teams, Green Machine, Golden Champs, Raptors and Falcons, boys and girls ranging from six to nine year olds. The teams featured players from the same schools, best friends and neighbors.  Just like all the other Brotherhood Crusade leagues, the emphasis was on every child playing. The game consisted of four innings with every player kicking in every inning.  The games were high scoring and action packed, offensive teams coach pitched and good defense was rewarded a point when the team scored three outs per inning.

The season ended with the Golden Champs going undefeated, coached by Tom Polenzini. All players received a trophy at the conclusion of the season, as well to smiles given to each player. We look forward to our next great season in March.

Flap Jacks and Cold Cash Pancake Breakfast

Sponsored by The Bakewell Family

The flag football league had two major sponsors this year, Washington Iron Works of Gardena and Bakewell Family.

This is the annual fund-raiser where all breakfast items are donated by the parents as well as the parents rolling up their sleeves to cook and serve.  The Bakewell Family donated $2000.00 as Silver Sponsor, to get the ball rolling and sponsoring the breakfast to get our fund-raiser off to a good start. Mr. Danny Bakewell Sr. personally appeared and graciously donated the funds and saw first hand how the parents and teams pitch in and help make this fund-raiser a success.

Washington Iron Works of Gardena sponsored the league by donating $3,000 as a Gold sponsor. There corporate name appeared on the players jersey giving them the great recognition as a league sponsor.

All money raised from the Bakewell Family and Washington Iron Works was used as scholarships, trophies and facility rentals. These funds help to defer some of the increasing cost the league has had to incur over the past few seasons.

The Brotherhood Crusade Youth Sports League was truly thankful to have two major sponsors this flag football season.

Golden Eagles Give Back

(Cal State LA basketball)

The Brotherhood Community Youth basketball league players were the guest of the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles Mens basketball team for a free clinic on December 19, 2009. Head Coach, Stephen Thompson, a former star player of Syracuse University, treated 2010 winter basketball players to a free clinic at Cal State Los Angeles. The entire staff and players of The Golden Eagles team taught the Brotherhood Crusade players skills, drills, and spoke to them about success in the classroom. The Golden Eagles players as well as the Brotherhood Crusade kids had a great time and enjoyed hanging out with college players. This gave them the opportunity to attend a college campus and meet college players first hand.

In addition to the clinic, the players were honored guest of the Golden Eagles at a home game on January 3, 2010 and were the halftime entertainment by playing a mini game.  The players enjoyed watching the Golden Eagles compete on the college level, which gives our kids something to aspire to.

Good job Golden Eagles and Brotherhood Community Youth Sports League players.
